Meet our new team members!
We are thrilled to welcome new staff for the 2020-21 school year:
Sherwin Kim, Learning Center, La Ballona ES
From Mr. Kim: Aloha!  My name is Sherwin, but my students call me Kumu Kim.  I started my teaching career in 2010 and have worked with multiple grade levels in different districts throughout Los Angeles.  To work and live in Culver City has been a dream of mine, and I am glad to be a part of the district.  Teaching has become a passion of mine to help students realize how they learn and engage them in the process.  Every year brings a new set of experiences and joys that fulfill my personal desire to make learning attainable to all.
Aamber Brown, Resource Specialist Teacher, Farragut ES
From Ms. Brown: My name is Aamber Brown and I’m a new RSP teacher. This year marks my sixth year in education. I am a California native, and I come from a large family. In fact, I have eight siblings. I’m the second in rank and I believe that’s where my passion for teaching began. I’ve learned that every child is different and I love helping them navigate life and discover new ways to gain knowledge that fits what is best for them as individuals. When I am not teaching I enjoy puzzles, riding my bike and fun days at Disneyland. I am extremely honored to be a part of the Culver City community and I am excited to get to know and work with you all.
Matthew Dominguez, Resource Specialist Teacher, Farragut Elementary School
From Mr. Dominguez: I have been working as an education specialist in the Mild/Moderate field for over 13 years. During this time I have gained extensive experience working with students with disabilities of all kinds, including students with Autism, learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, visual impairments, orthopedic impairments, and Traumatic brain injuries. I have a Bachelors Degree in psychology from the University of California, Davis Campus and my teaching Credential is from California State University, Sacramento.  When not working to grow young minds I enjoy cooking, hiking, dancing (particularly swing dancing) and travel. I have been to exotic locales such as Machu Picchu in Peru, Jerusalem, Kathmandu, and all over Mexico and the Carribean. My students have always been excited to hear tales from my travels. I am dedicated to the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic growth of all of my students and am excited to start this new chapter of my life working here in Culver City.
Kami Chiang, School Psychologist Intern
From Ms. Chiang: Hello! My name is Kami! I'm in my third year at Chapman University studying to become a School Psychologist. I started working with children fresh out of high school as a Preschool Teacher Assistant, which led me to attend the University of Washington for my BA in Early Childhood and Family Studies. After undergrad, I became a Paraprofessional Educator at Tustin USD, then became a Substitute at Orange USD. During that time, I discovered my love for working with children with disabilities and supporting families in various capacities. Now, here I am, as a School Psychologist Intern at Culver City Unified School District, ready to do the same. :) Some fun facts: I love cooking and baking, I used to teach students how to cook nutritious foods for an after-school program. I also love to travel and explore new places/learn about new cultures. Excited to join the team and for this new year!
